Digital Innovation: The Impact of Technology on Consumers' Everyday Lifestyle and Implication for Brand and Engagement and Interaction
Technology has become so widely adopted that life cannot be lived - or imagined - without it. Now Smartphone penetration, tablet devices, Google's ultra high-speed broadband connection, upcoming 4G/WiMax high speed mobile connections, convergence of real and digital through augmented reality, location based services, mobile payments, are all hitting the mainstream or coming real soon – all presenting new lifestyle options and services, and new ways to engage and interactive with brands.

Our speakers and panel will discuss the ways brands and advertisers adapt to this fast paced environment, the actions they take to be ready today and the ones that may be possible in 3 or 5 years, and the point at which they should consider using emerging technology to optimize and maximize return on advertising and to build their brands. We look forward to having you join us, learn and participate in this rare discussion.

ArtsTech & NY Gaming Meetup Present: Gaming & the Arts
The Arts, Culture and Technology Meetup and NY Gaming Meetup join forces to bring you an awesome event for Internet Week!

We'll be hearing from a variety of speakers discussing the intersection of art and games. There are several aspects to this -- artistic expression via games as well as the integration of games into arts programming to engage, interact with and educate audiences.

The night will also feature a performance by Knife City, the latest 8-bit incarnation of musician Luke Silas' lifetime fascination with both making music and classic video games. He uses a pair of Game Boys to produce music meant for dancing. He also plays drums for the NYC chiprock band Anamanaguchi.

Schedule:

Doors - 7:00pm
Speaker presentations - 7:15-8:15pm
Informal networking- 8:15-10:00pm
Performance by Knife City- 8:40-9:00pm

Speakers:

Greg Trefry has a wide array of experience designing games. He has designed everything from web-based MMOs to hit casual games to alternate reality games. Greg created and served as director of the Come Out & Play Festival, a three day festival of street games that brings designers and players from around the world to New York City every summer. He just finished writing his first book, Casual Game Design: Designing Play for the Gamer in All of Us

Tam Myaing is the founder and chief designer at Neuronic Games, a NYC based studio focused on creating games and interactive media for museums and mobile devices. Neuronic strives to create engaging experiences where the audience can learn something interesting and useful while having fun at the same time. Neuronic's latest release, which is also a featured educational app on the Apple app store, is an iPad game called Skrambler where players put together famous works of art as they discover the story behind the paintings and the artists."

Gabe Smedresman studied architecture at Yale, came out to the west coast to build technology for Google, then set out on his own to design games. He currently works as the founder of Echo Team, a startup building online games that get players collaborating in the real world.

Charles Amis is a game designer at E-line Media where he shares a passion for entertainment that engages, educates, and empowers. He has worked on a broad range of games including casual PC titles, collectible card games, board games, and sports. His goal is to bring artistic media together to give people an unforgettable experience and then give them the tools to make their own.

Huge thanks goes out to the Arts, Culture and Technology Meetup for their help, and to Galapagos Art Space for hosting the event!

Hackerspace Regular Meeting
Our meetings are run very casually and we discuss interesting and fun topics. We start off by choosing a meeting leader somehow.

This meeting leader gets the "Theptor" and controls the flow of the meeting and appoints a note taker.

We then go around the room and give everyone 6 minutes to talk about whatever they want. A guideline is provided on our wiki.

It is a lot of fun and we usually get food / drinks if enough people show up.

Made in NY: Social Games and Branding
Social games present an emerging tool for traditional brands to connect with consumers. To date, however, there exists very little insight into the best practices necessary to capitalize on this opportunity. How can a brand participate without damaging its reputation? What works? What doesn't?

A collaboration between the Mayor’s Office of Film, Theatre and Broadcasting, the NYC Chapter of the International Game Developers Association and SuperData Research, the event will feature game designers and representatives from renowned media companies that will share what they've learned from making social games a key component of their branding and promotional strategies.

Razorfish: Living in Public
The discussion about privacy in social media is reaching a fever pitch. Join us at Razorfish for drinks and Q&A with Josh Harris and Brian Morrissey on the influence of social experiments as seen in the Sundance award-winning documentary: We Live in Public.

During the Internet boom, sudden & monumental success afforded some entrepreneurs the opportunity to fund grand visions of their own. At the end of 1999 Josh Harris, founder of JupiterResearch and Pseudo.com, indulged his vision by creating an art project called “Quiet.” He gathered over 100 people in a closed environment where cameras were pointed at them in every corner of the space, every hour of the day.

The party/art project/social experiment was captured in last year’s fascinating documentary “We Live in Public,” which was released just as the discussion of privacy and oversharing in social media was on the rise. Now, as we try to understand how to balance social behavior and privacy, we can learn more than ever from revisiting Josh Harris and his webcast experiments.

Breaking In To Branded Content
Branded content is one of the fasting growing subsets of entertainment for new media. Different from traditional product placement, branded content means structuring a story or episodic narrative around a brand. This can vary from explicit use of products in story to developing programming that reflects aspects of a broader brand image. While the WGA does not cover traditional broadcast advertising, writing branded content for the web CAN be covered under WGA agreements -- resulting in income as well as pension and health care contributions for Guild members. But how does a writer from traditional media break in? How do we make the connections? Reach the brands? And bridge the gap between old school advertising and narrative storytelling. This panel/seminar will address these issues and features writers who have successfully produced branded content for the web as well as producers and other experts in the field of branded storytelling.

Confirmed Panelists include:

Angela Matusik, Chief Content Executive, iVillage Networks (a subset of NBC Universal Digital)

Ryan O'Hara Theisen & Jonathan Rosen, Co-Founder + Film Director, Lucky Viral Branded Content

Stephen Gill, Independent writer/producer specializing in branded content. www.stephengill.net

Ad Operations as Revenue Management, IAB Professional Development
Taught by Sandra Baez and Charlie Weiss of the Wall Street Journal Online, Fergus Mellon of AOL and Chris Eberle of Meebo

This seminar presents ideas that can help your organization transform its operational philosophy and re-focus on enterprise-wide revenue management. We will show how to build better partnerships across the organization, with a particular emphasis on sales and operations. Here, aligning the each team’s goals, defining responsibilities, and implementing risk mitigation strategies can improve performance and reduce the instinct to assign blame when mistakes, inevitably, are made. Organizational tools and processes – from simple reports and analysis that support better pricing and inventory management, to a plan for building cross-functional pricing councils can help fuel a culture of revenue management. The instructors will illustrate these ideas with case studies and examples from their experience at the Wall Street Journal and other leading publications. Participants will also see specific ways to implement these ideas, with both quick wins to test the concepts and build momentum as well as a longer-term plays.

This course is designed for executives in operations, finance, sales, and general management at digital publications of any size. Participants with authority to drive change in their organization will leave with concrete tactics to employ immediately. Other attendees will be armed with concepts and arguments to successfully make a case for change, winning additional responsibilities for themselves.

**This class counts toward the IAB Certificate in Interactive Advertising, earned after 40 hours of training with the IAB or our approved partners.

Sailing With zozi: See NYC a Little Differently
If you’re one of the many technology enthusiasts gearing up for Internet Week in NYC…this is for you.

There will be lots of people and lots of parties during IW as NYC is on a tear. But that doesn’t mean you have to be boring. Sure, you could go to the bar for a party (again), or you can go sailing on the Hudson to see from a whole new perspective.

On June 10th at 5:30 PM zozi is launching in the Big Apple and to celebrate, we'll take the Internet Week community out for an experience. The sailboat we're taking is called America II, and is the boat the Americans used to win back the America's Cup from the Australians in 1987 - it's amazing.

As a bit of background, zozi is a company built off the belief that everyone should be able to experience all the great things this world has to offer. We find the most interesting things to do locally and bring them to consumers at up to 80% off. Think kayaking with the seals, sip and cycling wineries, urban zip lining, and more.

zozi will officially launch their NYC business, as the boat pushes away from the North Cove Marina dock. We'll be sure to get everyone back by 7:00 PM, which is just enough time to set sail, get an extraordinary view of the city, and get back to catch all the parties (OK, we like bars too).

Thanks to Manhattan Sailing Club and the America II for making the event happen!

This training session will explore all the different techniques and help to determine which is best for you and your body.

The event will begin with an informational talk followed by a coached session with triathlon coach Brian Hammond.

Sign up to take advantage of one or all of these unique multi-sport training workouts and A FREE WEEK at the Equinox Fitness Club at Greenwich Avenue— which Fitness Magazine hails as "the Best Fitness Club in America".

Hot and Bothered Breakfast
Please join us for the Hot and Bothered Breakfast a panel discussing Why It's Time To Change The Gender Ratio in New Media & Tech

Women are present and accounted for across the new media and tech space -- just not at the top, or on panels, or at conferences, or in magazine articles...or, crucially, in VC money. What's keeping women from rising to the very top of every sector of our industry? It can't just be coding - Gary Vaynerchuk makes videos about wine. No, the problem is not with women or their ideas or aptitudes - but there is a problem with the ratio. And we want to get to the bottom of why that is -- and change it. Why does tech feel like such a boy's club? What are guys doing differently than girls? How can women do more to make their ideas happen? How can we gently tell those people running conferences that 4 white-guy keynotes could maybe be improved upon? And how can we encourage cross-gender mentorship that lets the talent truly rise for the very best of our industry? These are just a few of the questions we'll address, with the goal of getting a whole lot more women into the workplace, as a first step to change.

Panelists TBD

Kickball Tournament for Startups
Hey Digital (Kick) Ballers!

Need a fun activity that doesn't involve staring at a screen? You're in luck! Image Space Media is hosting a kickball tournament for NYC-based startups this Friday, June 11 for Internet Week.

Please plan to arrive at Chelsea Park at 8pm so we can get the ball rolling around 8:30 (pun intended). If your company already has a team, please appoint a captain and email us your team name and a headcount (no less than 10 players). Team shirts/uniforms are welcome but not required.

If you aren’t part of a team but would still like to show off your kickball skills, shoot us an email at kickball@imagespacemedia.com or publicly announce your athletic ability on the event’s Facebook wall so we can find you some teammates.

We’ll play until around 10:30pm, at which point we will announce the winning team and give out the highly esteemed SPAM Awards. Following the awards ceremony, you’re all invited to the after party to hydrate after the big game. The party will be at The Half King (www.thehalfking.com), located at 505 W 23rd St near 10th Ave. Say you’re with the Kickball Tournament & Image Space Media and you’ll have access to our private room and $4 draft beers all night.

World Cup Kickoff Party & Tweetup!
We will be celebrating the start of the world's most watched sporting event with a centuries old battle.

USA vs. England

Will the upstart yanks emerge victorious? Or will the sun shine on the British empire for one more day? Either way, it looks like the Lend-Lease Act has been canceled.

Celebrate Internet Week New York by joining our tweetup! Perfect your 140 character smack talk, upload video of your best GOAAAAAAL call, or show off your favorite World Cup app. With any luck, Foursquare will create a special World Cup badge!

Choose your side, wear your colors, and get ready for an afternoon of fun with friends, drinks and activities, and the Beautiful Game.

In honor of the first World Cup to be held in Africa, we will be partnering with the Flip Flop Foundation to raise money for the relief work they do in Zambia! We will be raffling off gift cards to restaurants, retail stores and an XBox 360!
